Gold Coast Airport, also known as Coolangatta Airport (IATA: OOL, ICAO: YBCG), is an international airport located at the southern end of the Gold Coast (Coolangatta), 90km south of Brisbane. The airport serves more than 6.5 million passengers annually and is used for both domestic and international Flights. When the Airport opened in 1939, passenger flights took off from the then grassy airfield, and by 1959 the runway and taxiways were fully paved, and the airport accommodated jet operations a decade later. The airport features two runways, the main runway (14-32) is 2,500m or 8,202 feet long and the second runway (35-17), is for general aviation aircraft. Beginning construction in 2019, the new multi-level terminal expansion opened in 2022 and doubled the airports size.
